Multilingual Digital Parenting Guide on Media Education Issues in The Form of a Web-based App (2018-2020)
Project Number: 2018-1-DE02-KA204-005033
Every year, over 3.7 million children are born in Europe and grow up in a densely packed media world. The demand for media literacy education and, in particular, for help with media education is increasing across all countries. Children and young people today are not only at home in digital media at an ever earlier age and find increasingly complex online worlds and opportunities. Unlike in the real world, consumption is also largely beyond parental control.
Although this increasing need for parental education exists, the form of support that parents need appears to be changing. Parents' evenings at schools are on the decline and online seminar rooms are in demand, as there is no need to travel and additional childcare does not have to be financed and organised. Anonymity is given, which can be particularly helpful for sensitive topics. Digital media can be used to make learning even more active and personalised.
The Erasmus+ project "You, Media and Me" ("YouMMe") is responding to this demand. In a consortium from Austria, Bulgaria, Greece, Slovenia and Germany and with the involvement of politicians and parents themselves, a multilingual digital parent consultation hour is being developed in the form of a web-based app.
This will provide instructional videos in 5 languages that deal with parents' own critically reflected use of media and specific, current topics in media education. Working materials, a question bank and a monthly expert round table will be available on the website. The partner countries are also organising multiple events and a final symposium in Graz.
Multiplier event "You, Media & Me"
On 22 September 2020, the multiplier event "You, Media & Me" took place in Graz as part of the EU project "education@home multilingual - digital parents' guide to media education in the form of a web-based APP" as part of the current corona measures.
