International Congress for Children's Philosophy 2008
"Philosophy of interculturality"
from 16 - 19 October 2008, in Graz/Austria
The ability to engage in intercultural dialogue is the basis for children and young people to find their way in a globalised world. The aim of the congress is to promote intercultural and interdisciplinary dialogue and the exchange between different philosophical approaches and theories in the context of today's world.
This means facing up to major challenges, especially with regard to the all-important renewal in the relationships between interculturality, ethnic identities, interdisciplinarity and transdisciplinarity.
In the field of education, this is reflected in the transformation of educational plans. Here in particular, the congress has set itself the goal of taking up the increasingly intensive, critical debates - especially in Europe - on the significance of "educational plans" and generating new concepts.

The congress is planned as an intercultural and interdisciplinary forum to gain new insights into both multicultural orientation and effective educational objectives. The latest research findings and practice-orientated projects, including philosophising with children and young people, will be presented and examined by experts.
The programme promises an eventful conference for around 150 participants from 18 countries, including 24 speakers.
The topics covered by the congress include the following areas:
- Intercultural dialogue
- Philosophy of human rights
- Transculturality and transdisciplinarity
- Pluralistic dimensions of the philosophy of children
- Culture, integration and education
- The concept of (multiple) identity(ies)
- Citizenship and democracy
- Lifelong learning
