Scienceweek for Kids

Curiosity and questions welcome!

When: 22 to 26 July 2024 daily 8°° to 16°°

Where: Kinderfreunde KIBIZ Graz, Pappenheimgasse 8.

The workshops are interactive. There will be research, investigation, experimentation and, of course, playing, painting, singing and laughing.

Two workshops from different areas will take place each day over the five days, e.g:

  1. Number systems - The meaning of numbers in different cultures? - When and where did numbers originate? We make triangular numbers and discover other patterns of natural numbers
  2. The secrets of physics - Why does the sun rise? - Why does a heavy stone fall to the ground as quickly as a light one? What causes an electric current? How does a barometer work? Questions upon questions!
  3. Why do we need music? - We want to delve into the science of music with specific questions. Together we will go on a fascinating sound journey through several epochs.
  4. Art - Culture: Create your own work of art- What is art? What is culture? We get to know different artistic styles and try out different painting techniques.
  5. Fascinating colours around us - Where do colours play a role everywhere? Why can animals and plants be colourful? What do colours mean? Can everyone see colours (in the same way)?
  6. All life comes from water - we will look at the coolest element, water, and carry out experiments.

The content of the planned week includes the following scientific fields:

  • Biology and environmental science
  • Philosophy and linguistics
  • mathematics
  • Physics and chemistry
  • musicology
  • History, Cultural Studies
